When the Service Roundtable was launched in 2002, the Roundtable discussion lists were an instant hit. Suddenly, contractors no longer had to figure out the solutions to the problems they faced all on their own. With a few taps on the keyboard and click of the mouse, contractors were able to tap into the advice and counsel of hundreds (and later thousands) of the industry s elite contractors and consultants.

Beginning in 2003, we began archiving the posts to create a dynamic, searchable knowledge base. It became the industry s largest management knowledge base with more than 85,000 posts on record and more added every day. Here, we're sharing a selection of the tips, tricks, and traps that Service Roundtable members trade daily. Mike Weil, Editor-in-Chief of Contracting Business Magazine, the industry's circulation leader, performed the hard work of digging through the knowledge base to find a selection to edit and share with you.

Mike's goal was to present solutions to an assortment of real world issues contractors face in a compact and easy to digest volume. Given the overwhelming amount of information, I'm sure Mike had a hard time selecting what and whom to include and exclude. The result of his labor is an easy to digest book broken into focused topics.

While this book only scratches the surface, it's not only packed with a wealth of information, but information that will help you generate greater wealth in your business. Follow the lead of the dozens of contractors and consult- ants featured in the book from across the country and you're almost assured of picking up new ideas and business approaches that will help you make more money, build a bigger bottom line, and do it in less time.
